A Christmas activity for a team that is not in the same place
When colleagues are split across several sites, several cities or several countries, the end-of-year get-together turns into a logistics problem before it turns into a good time.
The Christmas Tour is the Christmas scenario of the Virtual Team Building Tour: one hour of play over video call, with nobody travelling anywhere. It uses the same format as our other scenarios; what changes are the locations and the riddles.

What players do during the game
Explore winter locations on Google Street View
The route goes through places that look and feel like winter. You will pass through Santa’s village, you will explore Antarctica, you will slide along a frozen lake in Mongolia. Other locations complete the route.
No prior knowledge is needed. Nobody has to have set foot in these places: the riddles are solved from the screen, and everyone starts on an equal footing.
Solve as many riddles as possible before the clock runs out
Each location carries its own riddle. The team explores, talks it over, suggests, confirms. The aim is to collect as many points as possible within the hour.
How a session runs
The briefing
Everyone joins one shared video call. The game master goes through the rules and answers questions, then the clock starts.
One hour of play in teams
Each team moves to its own room: one video call and one instant messaging channel per team. Every team plays at the same time, on the same route. The game master drops into the rooms regularly, to give a hand to the teams that need one.
The leaderboard
When the time is up, everyone comes back to the shared video call for the results and the podium.
Why this format works for a Christmas event
Three reasons, none of which depend on the seasonal decor.
Time, first. One hour of play, around 1h30 counting the briefing and the results: that fits inside a December morning, before a team lunch or at the end of a meeting.
An equal start, next. The riddles are solved without any prior knowledge of the locations visited. Everyone begins at the same level, whatever their seniority in the company.
And every team plays at the same time. Nobody waits their turn while the others play.
For 50, 100 or 200 employees
From 8 to 500 players. We recommend no more than 8 people per team, the limit that keeps the game experience good. Teams are therefore 4 to 8 people, and several sessions run in parallel on the same route when headcount calls for it. Everyone comes back together at the end for the leaderboard.
An example with 120 people
Fifteen teams set up beforehand, on the video conferencing tool the company already uses. Shared briefing at 10am, play until 11am, everyone back around 11.15am for the leaderboard.

We host on the tool your company already uses, which saves introducing a new one to your people on the day of the session. Nothing to install, nothing to download: the links to the video call, the riddles and the answer form are sent during the session.
What players need
A decent internet connection and a computer. A tablet or a phone works, but a computer is far more comfortable to play on. An up-to-date browser to open the session link, and a headset or earphones to keep background noise down.

Do we need to know the locations to play the Christmas Tour?
No. The riddles are solved without ever having set foot in the places you explore. Everyone starts on an equal footing, which is more of an advantage than anything: the ideas come from where you least expect them.
What do we need in order to play?

Yes. Only your own people play during the session.

No. A computer and a good connection are enough. The links to the video call, the riddles and the answer form are sent during the session. Everything happens online.
